No-Brainer: Studies point to a need for better physician-patient communication.
Posted by: Rob Likoff on Wednesday, February 13, 2013
Poor medication “adherence”– defined as not taking your medication correctly – has been a significant problem for our healthcare system for over 50 years. Various statistics have appeared suggesting the cost exceeds $100 billion annually in lost revenue to the pharmaceutical industry and countless dollars to society for loss of productivity and poor clinical outcomes.
But from the perspective of the patient who isn’t taught why a medication is prescribed or what it does or what to expect form it or even what am I being treated for - its perhaps not surprising that up to 50% of prescriptions are never filled. Add to that the number of patients who don’t take their medications correctly or for the required length of time (sometimes “forever”), lack of adherence is a serious problem.
A new study, just published in the Annals of Family Medicine (Ann Fam Med January/February 2013 vol. 11 no. 1 28-36) concludes that when physician - patient communication is enhanced, patients are more likely to take their medications correctly.
There are many reasons why adherence is low – and no one disputes that better communication is one of the answers. Yet despite the proliferation of digital tools, apps and the like, we have made little progress. Sometimes, as the case of education and communication – more is indeed more – but in the case of delivering the information to the right people at the right time – lets keep it simple.
Vpak Media was created to help solve problems like this and to provide tools to enhance communication and education. I understand that frequently the physician doesn’t have time to fully counsel a patient. So why not send him or her on their way with a personalized “video in print” brochure which can answer the questions patients may have and provide a ready reference after the doctor visit is over? Video in print has become increasingly affordable and is an ideal tactic to help close the physician-patient communication gap.

Big video innovation and impact in a small credit card-sized tool
Vpak, the most powerful, portable, customizable marketing device that “turns on the printed piece” now comes in a new credit card-sized format we call the Vpak Mini.
It still combines the impact of enduring print material with the stickiness and multisensory power of video and audio, but now it’s same height and width as a credit card. That means your customers can carry your branded video around with them, wherever they go.
Vpak Mini may be small, but it is packed with all kinds of utility. Built right into its custom-printed PVC plastic housing, you’ll find a 2.4” LCD screen, a built-in speaker, and up to 45 minutes of video And that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to its amazing functionality:
- Customizable chapters of content
- On-screen display
- Optional Touch-Screen Interface
- Rechargeable lithium-ion battery
- USB Micro-port for recharging
To make sure your customers keep your Vpak Mini around, they can even upload new video content of their own and record personal messages. Don’t worry; your promotional video content is locked, so they can watch your brand messages over and over, and show to their friends and family too.
Vpak Mini also eliminates the need for “drives” and “a good signal” because everything is self-contained in a rechargeable tool that comes at a surprisingly cost-effective price.
Put your video content right into the palm of your targeted consumers’ hands with the Vpak Mini.
